This is my current work-in-progress mentor project, focused on creating a likeness-based, game-ready character of Han Solo from Star Wars: A New Hope.
I am currently at the mid-detail stage of the face, beginning to introduce secondary details such as wrinkles, pores and finer facial forms.
Throughout the project, I have been developing my understanding of the character art pipeline, covering areas such as topology, anatomy, facial forms and likeness sculpting. I have also been applying industry standard techniques and workflows within ZBrush for the high-poly sculpting stage.
For the clothing, I used Marvelous Designer to create the initial garments before bringing them into ZBrush for further sculpting and polishing.
So far, the project has covered:
Building a clean and suitable base mesh and topology
Studying facial anatomy, proportions and primary forms
Developing a likeness through accurate facial structure and form
Industry standard high-poly sculpting techniques in ZBrush
Creating and refining clothing using Marvelous Designer
Bringing Marvelous Designer garments into ZBrush for further sculpting and polishing
UV unwrapping and preparing the character for later stages of the pipeline
There is still a lot more to develop, particularly the finer skin details and later texturing stages, but this project has already helped me significantly improve my understanding of a game-ready character workflow.
